I love October. The weather is typically wonderful. “It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold. All you need is a light jacket” (My favorite line from the movie, Miss Congeniality).
October is also the beginning of the fourth quarter of the year. It is the perfect time to assess your goals and look forward to ending the year strongly. As you wrap up the next few months, be sure to evaluate your budget and overall financial state. Don’t let holiday shopping set you back.
As you begin finalizing projects and enjoying the holidays, find time to review your current budget and plan. Proper planning now can set you up for a successful new year.
Before year end:
Create a holiday budget and stick to it.
Use all Flexible Spending Account funds.
Maximize contributions to 401(k) and IRA accounts.
Prepare receipts and documents for tax season.
Review credit report for errors.
Reset online passwords.
Review auto, health, and life insurance policies.
Confirm that there are beneficiaries on all your accounts.
Confirm that your estate documents are complete such as a will, trust, power of attorney, and an advance health care directive.
Schedule a discovery session to discuss your budget and goals for the new year.
Let’s make the most of October and be ready to usher in November with pride.
